This form must be read carefully by both parents/guardians and juvenile members of Kanturk Basketball club as it clearly outlines the Code of Conduct for Junior Members. This Code is necessary so that all juvenile members are aware of their rights and responsibilities as members of Kanturk Basketball club. In order to become a member of the club and participate in the training programme, the parents/guardians of the juveniles are required to agree to abide by the terms and conditions of the Code which are outlined below and submit same to the DLP.

Code of Conduct for Junior Members 2024/2025

Kanturk Basketball Club wishes to provide the best possible environment for all juveniles involved in the sport. Young people deserve to be given enjoyable, safe sporting opportunities, free of abuse of any kind. These participants have rights, which must be respected, as well as responsibilities that they must accept. Young people should be encouraged to realise that they have responsibilities to treat other participants and Leaders with fairness and respect.

Juniors members are entitled to:

Be safe and to feel safe
Be listened to
Be believed
Have fun and enjoy Basketball
Have a voice in relation to their activities within Basketball
Be treated with dignity, sensitivity and respect
Participate on an equitable and fair manner, irrespective of age, ability, appearance, disability, ethnic background, gender, gender identity, political persuasion, religion or belief, social background etc.
Experience competition at a level at which they feel comfortable
Make complaints and have them dealt with
Be safe from risk of bullying behaviour
Say No to things that make them feel unsafe
Privacy and Confidentiality

Young players should always:

Treat Basketball Leaders with respect, (including professionals, coaches, managers, club officials, parents on supervision etc.)
Look out for themselves and the welfare of others
Play fairly at all times and to do their best
Be organised and on time, tell someone if you are leaving a venue or competition
Respect team members, even when things go wrong
Respect opponents, be gracious in defeat
Refrain from use of mobile phone during game and training (incl times outs, half time etc)
Abide by the rules set down by team managers when travelling to away events representing the club
Behave in a manner that avoids bringing Basketball into disrepute
Talk to the Children's Officer within the club if they have any problems.

Young players should never:

Cheat
Use violence or engage in irresponsible, abusive, inappropriate or illegal behaviour
Shout or argue with officials, teammates or opponents
Harm team members, opponents or their property
Bully or use bullying tactics to isolate another player or gain advantage
Take banned substances, drink alcohol, smoke or engage in inappropriate behaviour
Keep secrets, that may leave them or others at risk
Tell lies about adults or young people
Spread rumours
Discriminate against other players on the basis of age, ability, appearance, disability, ethnic background, gender, gender identity, political persuasion, religion or belief, social background etc.

Training
All training sessions begin on the hour. Please do not drop your child early as hall may be booked by another group and we must respect their training time.

As all club members are minors and in the interest of their safety and welfare all children must be dropped to the door of the hall and collected from the door. No child will be allowed to cross the car park unaccompanied. Parents are responsible for the safe dropping and collecting of their own child.

I confirm that both I and my son/daughter have read the above Code of Conduct and agree to abide by the terms and conditions outlined in it.

As a parent/guardian of a junior member, we would encourage you to consider the following messages as Kanturk Basketball Club wants to help you continue supporting your child to reach their full potential and enjoy their time within basketball.

To help your child have a positive experience, please remember to:

Focus on what your child wants to get out of Basketball
Be the best role model you can be
Help your child achieve their potential
Be respectful of other children and coaches
Communicate with the coach and club/organisation

Kanturk Basketball Club believes that parents should:

Be a role model for your child and maintain the highest standards of conduct when interacting with juniors, other parents, officials/leaders and organisers.
Always behave responsibly and do not seek to unfairly affect a player or the outcome of the game.
Never intentionally expose any young person to embarrassment or disparagement using flippant or sarcastic remarks.
Always recognise the value and importance of the officials and volunteers who provide sporting and recreational opportunities for your child.
Do not publicly question the judgement or honesty of referees, coaches or organisers.
Respect convenors, professionals, coaches, referees, organisers and other players.
Encourage your child to play by the rules. Teach your child that honest endeavour is as important as winning and do all you can to encourage good sportsmanship.
Encourage mutual respect for teammates and opponents.
Support all efforts to remove abusive behaviour and bullying behaviour in all its forms.
Never demonstrate threatening or abusive behaviour or use foul language.

Any misdemeanours and breach of this code of conduct will be dealt with immediately by a Basketball official. Persistent concerns or breaches will result in the parent/guardian being asked not to attend competitions if their attendance is detrimental to the juvenile's welfare.

Supervision

Each parent/guardian will be provided with a rota list to cover supervision.
Parent/guardian can swop with another parent if their allocated date does not suit but please inform manager of said swop. IF THE ASSIGNED PARENT/GUARDIAN DOES NOT TURN UP TO SUPERVISE. TRAINING WILL NOT GO AHEAD.

Please note that these rules are in place to protect your child and to protect the coach.

I confirm that I have read the above Code of Conduct for Parents/Guardians, and agree to abide by the terms and conditions outlined in it.

There may be opportunities for the Juvenile Basketball Committee members to take photographs for PR purposes that may be included on the website or local papers: for example: juveniles winning a competition or playing a tournament or perhaps pictures out on the course in which your son(s) or daughter(s) may feature.

I give consent for photographs of my son(s)/daughter(s) to be taken and used for the purposes outlined above. I understand that I have the right to make contact with the club if I wish to withdraw my consent.

The Juvenile Committee will operate a Whatsapp group for each specific group and only the Admin will be able to send messages. The purpose of the group is to contact regarding training, matches and the preparation and issuing of supervision schedule. Once your son/daughter progresses from one level to the next, they will be removed from one group and added to each subsequent group as is necessary.

I agree to be added to the Whatsapp group(s) as is necessary and accept that this will be the main means of contact in relation to the juvenile teams. I will make contact with the club if I do not wish to be added to the Whatsapp group(s) as is necessary.
